“The Bartel Years 200(TM)” is the roster of business anniversary symbols meant to inspire anniversary promotional campaigns for companies in operation for more than 100 years. What follows is the first part of the back story.
After we issued the original roster of business anniversary symbols, “The Bartel Years(TM),” we received emails and telephone calls from companies, inquiring about business anniversary symbols for the years beyond the 100th anniversary. They were disappointed to learn that we had created business anniversary symbols only for the first 100 years.
Frankly, creating “The Bartel Years(TM)” had been such a tough task that we didn’t relish the thought of creating another list of 100 business anniversary symbols. But we didn’t share that fact with prospects.
Then a 150-year-old photography studio in South Bend, Indiana, became a client.
During our initial “sell”-abration consultation, the owner asked the inevitable question I had been dreading: “By the way, what’s the symbol for the 150th anniversary?”
“We haven’t expanded our roster beyond the 100th year,” I replied then explained the reason why we hadn’t.
“But you’re the business anniversary experts,” the client said. “You have to have symbols for companies like us.”
She was right.
So I had to put on my thinking cap: How can I go about creating a roster of symbols for business anniversaries from 101 to 200?
