A book to celebrate GWTW’s 75th Anniversary!

One strategy for celebrating a business anniversary is offering special business anniversary promotional packages tied to the anniversary year. That’s what Turner Classic Movies (www.TCM.com) did for its 20th anniversary in 2014:

  • Offered 20 free nationwide screenings of the film classic Casablanca on March 4. Fans visiting the website searched for cities hosting the screenings and clicked on the link to receive free tickets.
  • Offered 20 free movie location tours in Los Angeles from March 14 through April 14. Each three-hour guided tour began at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre and took lucky fans throughout Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park and Silver Lake on “a route that tells the history of the region through the story of the movies.”
  • Offered 20 TCM fans the chance to be guest programmers during “Fan Programming Week” from April 7 through April 11.

From April 10 through April 13, TCM hosted its fifth annual Classic Film Festival in Hollywood with the theme “Family in the Movies: The Ties that Bind.” The festival showcased two films celebrating 75th anniversaries in 2014: the IMAX(R) 3D format version of The Wizard of Oz and the digitally restored Gone With the Wind.

When TCM launched its 24-hours-a-day, un-cut, un-interrupted, commercial-free broadcasting of classic movies from the massive Turner Entertainment film library, the inaugural film shown on April 14, 1994 was Gone With the Wind.

TCM celebrates its 20th anniversary with a re-broadcast of Gone With the Wind on April 14, 2014 at 8 p.m., east coast time.

Happy 20th anniversary, Turner Classic Movies!

Happy 75th anniversary, Gone With the Wind!
