The marriage of necessity and ingenuity for Bartel Communications, Inc., resulted in the birth of “The Bartel Years(TM),” the roster of business anniversary symbols for a century of business anniversary promotional campaigns. To help companies use “The Bartel Years(TM),” I wrote a Special Report, “The Top 10 Business Anniversary Ideas for ‘Sell-‘abrating Your Business Anniversary,” which is available as a free, downloadable PDF at www.paulinebartel.com.

After I completed the Special Report, I still worried that companies wouldn’t know how to adapt the symbols and the promotional ideas for industry-specific promotional campaigns. That’s when I realized I could use “The Bartel Years(TM)” as the foundation for a new business anniversary consulting service: The Bartel Way(TM).

The Bartel Way(TM) used integrated marketing and public relations strategies to position products and services within the context of celebrating a business anniversary. I explain to clients that it’s like throwing an anniversary party and getting some fabulous gifts:

  • New and repeat business
  • Competitive marketplace advantage
  • Stronger relationships with employees, customers, the public and others who have contributed to the company’s success.

Since launching The Bartel Way(TM) and “The Bartel Years(TM),” I’m often asked by business owners: “Which anniversaries are the best ones to celebrate?”

I respond: “All of them!”

The milestone years — those ending in 0 or 5 — are, of course, the biggies. But companies shouldn’t ignore the in-between years. Each anniversary is an opportunity to remind customers and prospects of a company’s staying power, achievements and community service. So I turn the question around to business owners:

“Do you want to spotlight your products or services once every 5 or 10 years or do you want to spotlight your products or services every year?”

After all, at the heart of a business anniversary is a “sell”-abration, contributing directly to a company’s future success.
