Best Art Direction

Lyle Wheeler was nominated for his work on Gone With the Wind. Competing films were Beau Geste, Captain Fury, First Love, Love Affair, Man of Conquest, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, The Rains Came, Stagecoach, The Wizard of Oz, Wuthering Heights.

 Best Cinematography, Color

Ernest Haller and Ray Rennahan were nominated for their work on Gone With the Wind. Competing films were Drums Along the Mohawk, The Four Feathers, The Mikado, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, The Wizard of Oz.

 Best Film Editing

Hal C. Kern and James E. Newcom were nominated for their work on Gone With the Wind. Competing films were Goodbye, Mr. Chips; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington; The Rains Came; Stagecoach.

 Best Sound Recording

Thomas T. Moulton was nominated for his work on Gone With the Wind. Competing films were Balalaika; Goodbye, Mr. Chips; The Great Victor Herbert; The Hunchback of Notre Dame; Man of Conquest; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington; Of Mice and Men; The Rains Came; When Tomorrow Comes.

Best Special Effects

John “Jack” R. Cosgrove, Fred Albin and Arthur Johns were nominated for their work on Gone With the Wind. Competing films were Only Angels Have Wings, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, The Rains Came, Topper Takes a Trip, Union Pacific, The Wizard of Oz.
